A relatively unknown Sydney-based artificial intelligence startup has stunned the tech world this week with the launch of a conversational AI model that, by several independent benchmarks, is already outperforming products from much larger international competitors.
The system, developed quietly over the past three years by a team of fewer than thirty engineers, is reportedly built on a novel training approach that uses dramatically less computing power than rival models.

Venture capital firms from San Francisco to Singapore have begun circling, with reports of valuation offers approaching the billion-dollar mark. The founders, however, insist they are in no hurry to sell.
"We built this because we believed Australia could lead in AI," the chief executive said in a brief launch event. "We don't need to move to the Bay Area to prove it."
